Nestled in the heart of Kerr County, Creekside at Camp Verde Property Owners Association (CCVPOA) is more than just a residential community; it’s a place where Texas history, natural beauty, and agricultural preservation come together in meaningful ways.
The property owners are not only committed to maintaining the beauty of the Hill Country but also dedicated to protecting its heritage. One of the most unique aspects of this community is its participation in the 1-D-1 Agricultural Exemption, which is supported by a wildlife management program centered on the Blackbuck Antelope.
These elegant animals, originally native to India, were introduced to Texas decades ago and have since thrived in the region. Their presence helps the Association qualify for the agricultural valuation, benefiting property owners while supporting local conservation efforts. To retain this exemption, they rely on a combination of well-maintained perimeter fencing, a carefully documented wildlife census, and responsible habitat management. The dedicated Wildlife Committee member volunteers’ work makes this program possible.
But CCVPOA isn’t just about natural beauty; our land also holds a rich military history. Camp Verde, established in 1855 as a U.S. Army post, is best known as the site of the U.S. Camel Corps experiment; an ambitious effort to use camels for transportation across the arid American Southwest. Although the project was short-lived, its legacy continues to shape the area.
In fact, the community contains a remarkable piece of that history: a surviving structure from the original military post. The historic “smokehouse” still stands proudly on CCVPOA property today, a tangible link to the past.
At CCVPOA, the Board remains steadfast in its commitment to honoring both the natural landscape and the historic roots of this land. Through continued care for the Blackbuck population, responsible land management, and the preservation of historic structures like the smokehouse, the members are helping uphold a legacy that truly sets Creekside at Camp Verde apart.
