No matter where a community is, having a strong homeowners association is one of the best indications that a neighborhood will flourish. This takes effort and input by not just the board of directors and the committee volunteers, but the many residents of the community as well.
Cedar Springs is a well-established community of 500 homes in Helotes, Texas on the west side of San Antonio. You can tell a lot by the upkeep of the facilities. Cedar Springs has a fresh coat of paint on the wooden fences lining the main entry, the interior of the clubhouse, and the wrought iron fences surrounding the pool and park area. The community maintains the roads and keeps to a rigorous schedule of asphalt overlay and sealing. The next large project is to determine how best to maintain the access control gates. It will soon be time to replace many of the parts to insure they continue to function well.
Each of the five volunteer board members takes ownership of an area of responsibility in the community and takes the approach of “get it done”. Whether it is working with TxDOT concerning a project to improve the drainage along the perimeter of the community, getting an amendment passed to limit short term rentals in the community, or putting grease on the squeaking gate actuator at midnight, the board is ready to take on the task.
Congratulations to Cedar Springs, our October Community of the Month.
