Indian Shores Garden Club
The Indian Shores Garden Club was established in 1967 by a small group of women who resided in the Indian Shores subdivision. It is a wonderful neighborhood group where local women come together to make new friends and enjoy each other’s company. While many of our members don’t actually garden, the purpose of the Garden Club is to enhance the enjoyment of the Indian Shores community. We do this through the development and support of beautification projects; stimulation of individual owners’ pride in improving the appearance of home and grounds; donation of our time and money to various approved special projects to benefit our local community; and by providing programs for the individual enrichment of membership.
Among the meaningful work produced by members of the Garden Club are:
1) Raising funds to provide college scholarships to three high school seniors at Crosby and Huffman High Schools, or who are home-schooled.
2) Raising funds for Wreaths Across America to place wreaths on Houston area veterans’ graves each December.
3) Hold the Holiday Market and Bakesale each fall.
4) Hold monthly Bingo games in the Indian Shores Community Center.
5) Sponsor and award community residents for “Yard of the Month”
6) Host a monthly community Coffee and Conversation on the first Thursday of most months
7) And maintain the landscaping at the front entrance and around the community center.
Membership is open to women who reside in Indian Shores and Rustic Acres subdivisions. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at the Indian Shores Community Center. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m., with a business meeting at 10:00 a.m., and an interesting program and luncheon to follow. Annual membership dues are $30; dues are complementary for those over 80 years of age. For more information, please contact an Indian Shores Garden Club officer at isgc1967@gmail.com.
